Jon Rattenbury is renowned for his meticulous attention to detail and masterful use of light and color to capture the awe-inspiring beauty of nature. His profound passion for the natural world is evident in every dreamlike artwork he creates.
Born in Cheltenham, England, in 1966, Rattenbury comes from an artistic family. His mother and grandmother were both talented musicians, nurturing his creative spirit from a young age. At the age of three, his family emigrated to the United States and settled in Northern California.
Rattenbury spent his youth exploring the diverse landscapes of California, finding inspiration in the majestic Sierras and the breathtaking coastline. Self-taught, he began drawing at an early age, transitioning to oil and acrylic painting by the age of thirteen. His natural talent and passion for art were evident from a young age.
After graduating from high school, Rattenbury honed his artistic skills through various roles in the creative industries. He worked with stained and etched glass, retouched photographs, and gained experience in the printing industry.
In the 1990s, Rattenbury began exhibiting his work in Southern California galleries, launching his full-time career as an artist. He also expanded his career as an artist into the Japanese market.
Rattenbury is celebrated for his innovative technique of dimensional acrylics on aluminum. This unique process combines a variety of materials, including aluminum, modeling paste, polymer clay, resin, glass, stone, sand, and metallic acrylics, to create visually striking and textured artworks.
By cutting out and raising elements like trees and leaves from the background, Rattenbury adds depth and contrast to his compositions. He further enhances the texture of his work by incorporating various types of stone, sand, and glass, which are coated with resin for a finished appearance.
In addition to his dimensional acrylics, Rattenbury also creates stunning canvas paintings that capture the beauty of landscapes and wildlife with intricate detail and vibrant colors.
Rattenbury's work has been featured in exhibitions and galleries worldwide, attracting a growing number of collectors. He has collaborated with Park West Gallery and participated in numerous VIP events, both land-based and cruise-based.
