What Is: Giclee? The term "giclee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.
The Giclee Process:
Giclee prints are created typically using professional 8-Color to 12-Color ink-jet printers. Among the manufacturers of these printers are vanguards such as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard. These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets.
Rattenbury Fine Arts uses Epson wide format printers and canvas from Breathing Color. We protect our prints with 2 coats of UV varnish that is rolled on not sprayed like most other giclee prints.
All our giclee prints our currently produced in house by Rattenbury Fine Arts.
Hand-Highlighting: Process of adding highlights by the artist to a giclee print. These highlights on your piece will never
be the same as another person's piece, making yours completely unique.
Artist Proof or AP: Artist Proofs are a separate edition from the Signed and Numbered edition. Usually about a tenth of the SN edition will determine how many AP's will be produced.
Signed and Numbered or SN: All limited edition Giclee's are signed and numbered by Jon Rattenbury.
Payment: What type of payment do you accept? We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Personal checks.
Shipping: We ship most of our products via FedEx but it depends on the package size and destination.
All prints come rolled in a tube and include a certificated of authenticity: This ensures humidity issues when shipping to different climates as well as economical storage and easier shipping. Stretching available at an extra charge.
Commissions: Will Mr. Rattenbury paint something just for me?Yes! Jon accepts commissions all the time! Dream up your favorite place and even combine ideas with photos you have captured throughout your travels. Jon will complete a full color sketch for approval before starting the piece. A 50% deposit is required before painting begins.
How long will it take to complete a commission? Usually it will take about 4-6 weeks to have an original painting completed once the idea and composition has been established. Jon has completed many of his commissions much earlier than the estimated time, but we always like to over estimate just a bit to give him extra time. Music: Where can I buy Mr. Rattenbury's music CD "Eternal Spirit" ?
